Petra Bagust kicked off her Good Friday radio show on Newstalk ZB talking about the role of art and creativity in crisis. What followed was a three-hour show focused on showcasing stories of neighbourhoods coming together and of creativity emerging from the lockdown.
Highlights included a rendition of “It is Well with my Soul” performed in isolation by the Nashville Studio Singer Community – Virtual Cell Phone Choir. The show also showcased Kiwi musician Nic Maunders and his song, Wheels of Motion, which was released that same day.
Jesus also took centre stage during the show, with Petra putting out the question: who was your ‘best Jesus’? Listeners called in with what they thought were the best renditions they’d seen of Jesus in film and television. This was seasoned with an interview with UK actor Adam Bond who is infamous for being “TV’s Jesus” having performed as Jesus Christ six times.
Another highlight of the show was a segment on the 400-year-old Oberammergau Passion Play which has been delayed due to Covid-19. The segment included an interview with actor Frederik Mayet, in Oberammergau, who plays Jesus – as well as colourful interviews with John Cooney, who has hosted tours to the play, and Ruth Bucknell who has been to Oberammergau twice.
